Everyone deserves beautiful memories.

Hi! I'm Erin! Welcome to my creative outlet and passion project. I believe that everyone deserves to be able to capture the important moments and chapters in their lives, whether those moments are big or small ones, and it is my goal to be able to deliver those magical memories to all of you. So why HoldenHands? Because my last name is Holden, and I hope that in my hands, your experience with photos is relaxing, adventurous, and just plain fun!

Photos are more than 1,000 words. Photos are memories, feelings, a moment in time frozen to remember the ones you love the most in the places you adore. Photos are enjoyable, relaxed, and personal to you. And they shouldn't be anything but perfect.

Pregnancy announcements are so fun to capture. There is excitement about the newest addition to the family, the ideas on how to share the news with loved ones, and the adorable developing new bump. I was so excited when Kerri and Andres reached out to schedule a session to announce their pregnancy. They wanted to do a bit of time inside and, if the weather was kind, a little outside. The day we got together, the high temperature was sixty degrees, so we were lucky to get to have some fun inside at The Mill in North Chelmsford and then head over to Freeman Lake. Their amazing sidekick, Benny, was such a good boy and added his sweet face to so many of the announcement photos! I am so excited for Kerri, Andres, and Benny! This little kiddo is so lucky to have them!

Speeches were spoken. Dances were done. Supper was served. It was time to party! And party they did! From the minute the music started to the last song, the guests made sure to fill the dance floor. Instead of having serving wedding cake for everyone, Taylor and Tyler chose to do donuts, which were quite a hit. People were living their best lives this New Year's Eve!

Side note: the last photo in the bunch is one of my new favorite details to capture: the end of the night details shot. When the fun has been had and people have filled the day with love, it is so much fun to arrange details of a day well lived!

After having a few moments to themselves and making it to the tail end of cocktail hour, it was time for the grand entrance, the special dances, and speeches. The sense of humor and the flowing of tears didn't slow down for the dances and speeches, especially for the dances Taylor and Tyler had with their children. For speeches, they shared the microphone with each of their brothers and both of their fathers. I know a lot of people write off speeches as boring, but I do not believe that for a second. You can get a real glimpse at who a person is by how someone else shares stories about them, and by the stories shared during this wedding, you can believe just how loved and precious these two are to those around them.

After a beautiful full family walk back up the aisle, it was time to catch some new family photos and some just married couple's photos. The hallway next to their ceremony and reception area was all brick with beautiful windows, and there was a super cool long green couch, so we went for a chic vibe for their New Year's Eve celebration. Taking even a couple of minutes to take some just married photos is so important. It allows you to have a few minutes away from the crowd to get to bask in the fact that you just got married, you get some sweet pictures with all of your emotions, and you get to show off your new jewelry. We didn't take too long, though, because there was a party to be had!

Here comes the bride, and here come the tears. This was one of the sweetest ceremonies I have ever gotten to witness, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house, particularly at the front of the house. From the heartfelt readings to the sweet and hilarious vows, Taylor and Tyler put everything they had into making their ceremony meaningful and personalized. After many tears, some laughs, two rings, and a kiss, these two were officially partners for life!

Our first stop on the way to Taylor and Tyler's New Year's Ever wedding was Ayotte Field in North Chelmsford for their first look. Ayotte Field was named after Taylor's grandfather, so this is a very special location. The another thing that was very special that day was the weather. Did I mention that it was 50 degrees throughout the day? We were so lucky to get beautiful weather to get to tromp around in for outdoor pictures. Would snow have been fun? Absolutely, but we took the warm weather while we had it!

Once we had Tyler in place, Taylor's brother escorted her in. I wish you could hear the sweet things Tyler was saying as he waited for his bride. During first looks, once we set up the couple, we just let them be. I don't give direction, I don't interject, I just let them be in the moment. Once they had seen each other and had all of the feelings, we took some family photos in different parts of the park before jumping in cars again to reunite with the rest of the wedding party. We structured our time to get all of the family and bridal party photos done before the ceremony, which included full group and just the groom's guys. If you want to have your after ceremony time all to yourself, consider a first look! After everyone had been photographed, it was time to get married!

For Taylor and Tyler's New Year's Eve wedding, the morning started at Taylor's house for the ladies. Hair and makeup was already in full swing when I arrived, and everyone was cozy in their matching plaid button-ups. Getting to be part of the morning is so much fun, and it's a great glimpse into the kind of energy the rest of the day will have. Everyone at Taylor's home was relaxed, bubbly, and excited. The Eras Tour was the soundtrack in the background, muffins, juice, and sandwiches were brought in, and coffee was in supply.

Instead of doing pictures with her individual bridesmaids when everyone was in their dresses, Taylor opted to do one-on-one photos with her girls while they were still in their flannel shirts on her bed. It felt so much more personal, and it was such a sweet way to get to touch base with each of them before everything started. Taylor also wanted to do a first look with her mother, her bridesmaids, and with her father before leaving for her first look with Tyler. If you are trying to decide whether to do a first look with anyone in addition to your partner, I say do it. Watching the emotions come over everyone was so sweet!

After everyone was dressed and the first looks at home were done, it was time to hop in the limo and head out to the first look with Tyler. But first, champagne!

The last wedding on my 2024 schedule was a personal favorite because the two humans who were merging their lives are two of my favorites. I have had a immense pleasure of knowing Taylor since we taught in the same school six years ago. Our two oldest children became good friends the day they met, and then we were pregnant with our second children at the same time. When Taylor started seeing her now husband, Tyler, I could see why she was head over heels for him.

Earlier in 2024, when Taylor asked me if I would photograph their wedding, I was thrilled! We had so much fun planning their engagement session (remember those magical ones in the woods in the rain?), and their wedding had so many different parts that were so much fun to bring to life, including our first set: the details. Taylor and Tyler leaned into the glitz and glam of a New Year's Eve wedding calls for, drawing on dark greens and pops of gold as their color scheme. This was the first wedding their venue, The Establishment in North Chelmsford, MA, had hosted, so they were able to work with a pliable canvas. Taylor's dad made the push for chair covers for the ceremony and reception, and they elevated the whole look.

The annual family photos for the Baldwin family are always treat to get to figure out what location we can galavant this year. I have been taking their pictures since their children were tiny, and now that they are teenagers, it's a challenge to find new and exciting backdrops. This year, we went to Prospect Park in Shrewsbury, MA, to a fabulous garden in the middle of the woods. The trees and light were just right to get the golden fall glow, and we made sure to take advantage of the garden ruins for a different kind of vibe.

LGBTQIA+ couples needed!

Happy March, friends! I am currently looking to fill in the representation gaps that I have in my portfolio. Representation matters. Full stop. While I have lots of different people and families represented, it is important to me to be aware of who I could be showcasing more. Because of this, I am in need of a few LQBTQIA+ couples who would be willing to do a session with me. I want some people who will allow me to give them the HoldenHands treatment of tailoring a session to who they are, finding a backdrop that speaks to them, help with styling, having fun for up to an hour and a half for our session, and then receiving a fully edited gallery with full printing rights to all photos received. In exchange for this, I ask that my couples allow me to showcase their sessions in my portfolio and social media (and if they are really happy with their experience, recommend me to their friends and family!).

As we are getting into the big wedding season for 2025, I wanted to make some recommendations for couples who are looking for other vendors to round out their wedding day. As a vendor who has captured weddings from Acadia National Park to Boston, I have had the pleasure of working with some amazing professionals who make wedding days a breeze for the couple, their friends and family, and for other vendors. Today's topic: Videographers

Videographers and photographers have to work very closely together because we often need the same angles, same shots, and time to get both of us what we need. I also have to make sure I am not standing in the way of their footage, as they usually have multiple cameras set up around the ceremony and reception locations. In every photoshoot, a little rain must fall.

It certainly felt that way for a major chunk of sessions this fall, but it never stopped us! Haley, Paul, and Parker are professionals at this point, which was good because we experience every type of weather except for snow in this session. We explored General Field in Groton to grab some fall family photos. Rumor has it that Haley's mom makes a calendar every year with photos from, so they made sure to pose for some more formal ones and some silly ones as well. It began to rain towards the end of our time, so we grabbed the umbrellas from the back of my car (I keep them on hand for all photo sessions, especially weddings) and we got some fun umbrella shots with the dramatic sun behind the clouds.

A little rain should never stop your outdoor photo session (unless you have a newborn... the tiniest humans have a different set of requirements!). Take Ha and Benjamin's session, for example. They loved photos with the peak foliage, and because of schedule constraints, we had one shot to get together. It was a bit rainy and cold that morning, but we made the best of it. The leaves on the trees at Twin Bridges Park in Merrimack were orange and yellow and just lovely, so we pulled out my clear umbrellas and let the water around us reflect the foliage. The more sessions I have in the rain, the more I love them. The photos are so much cozier, and the moodiness helps bring more focus to the couple. The colors around them popped beautifully, and they accentuated Ha's gorgeous sweater perfectly. The next time you have a session and it threatens to rain, do not worry about it. I got you!

Maternity sessions do not need to be cutesy. They don't need to be your standard poses. They don't need to be in your standard locations. They just need to be you.

Meet my most special maternity session, my sister. My sister Sarah and my brother-in-law Jeff wanted to capture the time before Mr. E came to join the world, but they didn't want the standard maternity session. They wanted drama. They wanted originality. What they landed on was a location in the middle of the woods that I randomly found, thanks to Facebook Reels. Prospect Park in Shrewsbury, MA, is home to a spectacular garden with estate ruins in it, giving it a dramatic look that just sings at golden hour. These two were ready to be professional models by the end of it, even after hiking a half mile in. I am so thankful we got to get these photos in before Mr. E made his arrival a couple weeks later!

It was a gorgeous day at the beginning of October when I had the joy of photographing Ruby and Luis's wedding at the Weston Art & Innovation Center in Weston, MA. The couple wanted to keep their nuptials intimate, so their entire wedding group consisted of their family members, making everything so much more personalized and cozy. It was truly two families becoming one.

After being pampered, Ruby put on her first gorgeous dress (she had two, and they were both absolutely stunning!), and the ceremony began. After, we hit golden hour at the perfect time for some family and couple's photos before the reception began. The food, including empanadas, chicken, and rice and beans, was all homemade, and it looked and smelled incredible. The night then became a dance party, finishing off with a few competitive rounds of musical chairs. It was sweet, fun, and the truest version of what family looks like.

Congratulations, Ruby and Luis! It was such an honor and a pleasure getting to capture your day!

Say hello to Katie, class of 2025! Can I just say that I absolutely loved Katie's background request for her senior photos? When her step-mother reached out, they wanted to see if we could do pictures surrounded by books. Say no more! This is totally my dream and wheelhouse! It took some research, but we found the most beautiful and gracious bookstore in Dunstable, MA: Wickham & Willoughby. Tucked into the side yard of a gorgeous large farmhouse, the bookstore is a maze of treasures with the added bonus of a fully glass greenhouse. It was raining during Katie's session, so the indoor session was perfect. Katie's "what the heck, I'll try it!" attitude was also perfect, so much so that after we finished all of the photos inside, she wanted to frolic in the rain! By the end, she was a professional model and hardly needed coaching. So much fun!

In light of what is happening right now in the United States, we all need to use our voices, so I want to take a moment to use mine on here. I have the privilege of working with so many of you and the people you love. To the best of my knowledge, none of you have shown up to a session with me with people you only brought to make a political statement. You brought them because you love them.

Love, however, and the right to be together as a family or a community are being attacked. This is not what I stand for. I stand for the LGBTQIA+ community. I stand for immigrants. I stand for public education. I stand for women. I stand for the end of racism and fascism. I stand for calling people who support hateful ideas what they are - evil and an abomination.

Meet David, class of 2025! I had the pleasure of meeting David and his mom at Mine Falls Park in Nashua to capture some senior photos to celebrate reaching such a pinnacle year. David is such a wonderful young adult! An active soccer player and fan, he wanted to incorporate the sport into some of his photos. He also came ready to try a variety of outfits, so we made sure we roamed around the park a bit to get a different look for each outfit. If there is one thing I love, it is giving clients are variety of options. David was willing to take part in every moment, and we had such a great time!

It seems only appropriate that I share this engagement session today, the day I deliver their wedding photos. Way back in September, to get ready for their New Year's Eve wedding, Taylor, Tyler, and I planned on doing a session I had been looking forward to for months: an engagement session in the water by the waterfall. We would splash, we would frolic, and we would get some out-of-the-ordinary photos to capture them during their engagement. While we did splash, frolic, and get some out-of-the-ordinary, it was not exactly what we had planned.

You see, we had just had a stretch of three weeks without any rain, which left the entire waterfall area dry. There was no waterfall. There was no pool of water at the bottom. There was, however, a heavy downpour the entire time we took photos. What the Weather Channel app called a 30 percent chance of showers was a 100 percent chance of heavy rain. It didn't matter. Taylor and Tyler were here for all of it, and through heavy rain, squishy mud, and melting hair gel, they braved every prompt I could throw at them with style and a sense of humor.

Did you find it? If you noticed that the vent at the top of the image was gone in one of the photos, 128 points to you!

This is an example of what we do as photographers that often times goes unnoticed. I call it "the invisible work." When I edit photos, I am looking for things that other may not notice, like vents, exit signs, fire alarms, random clumps of dirt, or a random light. Removing them may seem like extra work if others aren't going to notice them, but it makes the image so much cleaner and helps keep the focus on the intended subject. As you can imagine, this does mean there is some added time needed, especially when it comes to larger events, but it's worth the wait. We want your photos to look as put together as possible.
