Woman + Camera

IT'S IN THE BLOODLINE

I have been taking photos of anything and everything for as long as I can remember. The number of random photos in albums at my parents' house can attest to that. I think I come by it naturally. My grandfather was a photographer earlier in his life, and by the time I was old enough to understand photography, he was displaying most of his landscape work from his travels around my grandparents' house.

I purchased my first DSLR camera as a birthday present to myself when I turned 24. I figured it would at least be helpful for my upcoming wedding and honeymoon. What happened from there is recorded in homes all over the United States. I taught myself how to focus, edit, and find the real spirit in my subjects. I took on my first customers in the fall of 2010, and in 2011 HoldenHands Photography was born. I have had the honor and privilege of photographing families, newborns, weddings, and birthday parties ever since.

Outside of photography, I am a middle school Language Arts teacher, a mom, a runner, and an animal enthusiast. My bucket list includes visiting every Disney park in the world, traveling as much as possible, running all of big seven world marathons, and celebrating as many anniversaries with my high school sweetheart as possible. I would like to accomplish all of this while eating copious amounts of chocolate and popcorn.

What I Believe In

1. Anti-discrimination for all.

2. Black lives matter. It is not enough to be "not racist." We must be active anti-racists.

3. There is no such thing as boys' or girls' toys or colors. Toys are toys, and colors are colors.

4. Being a stay-at-home parent is the hardest job in the world and doesn't receive enough praise and credit.

5. Every child should start life with a small library of books and puzzles.

6. Photographs are passports to the past. There is no such thing as too many photos.
